More than 600 cobras were on display Tuesday after Thai customs officials seized them as they were being smuggled across the southern border from Malaysia.
Police said a pick-up truck was stopped on Monday (November 12) night at a customs checkpoint in Petchaburi province, south of Bangkok.
A Thai customs official said the car was believed to be heading north towards the Laos border.
He explained that surrounding countries are concentrating on stopping illegal wildlife smuggling and trading, especially through Thailand as a passageway.
Cobra trading is illegal in Thailand following the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) list aimed at protecting endangered species.
