Dr. Kermit Gosnell whom formally ran the Women’s Medical Society Clinic in Philadelphia was found guilty of murdering three babies during abortions, and now the disgraced doctor faces the death penalty. The practice targeted low income women, and the trail has now put a focus on the dangerous practice of late term abortions.
The case examined if the babies were born alive and then killed: He was accused of delivering the babies before deliberately severing their spinal cords. Graphic testimonies lead to a highly emotional trial which saw one member of the Jury crying.
The Jury heard five weeks of testimony and deliberated for ten days. Gosnell was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter after giving a 41 year old patient a drug overdose after she went to him for an abortion. In addition he was found guilty of 211 counts of failing to adhere to abortion rules.
He also was found guilty of performing 21 abortions after the 24 week mark at his clinic. The Jury will return to the court on Tuesday to determine if he will serve life in prison or the death penalty after he was found guilty of three counts of first degree murder.
