Anti-whaling group Sea Shepherd's SSS Bob Barker positioned itself between Japanese whaling vessel, Yushin Maru 2 and factory ship, Nisshin Maru in an attempt to stop a whale from being slaughtered. Sea Shepherd Australia has said that the Yushin Maru No2 harpooned a Minke whale in Australia's Antarctic Territory on Friday (February 15) and had made nine attempts to transfer the whale to the factory ship. Sea Shepherd told Reuters that on the 10th attempt the whale was transferred successfully to the Nisshin Maru for slaughter. The U.S Supreme Court has upheld an injunction on Friday (February 15) that orders Sea Shepherd to stay away from Japanese Whaling vessels in the Southern Ocean. The Institute of Cetacean Research sought the injunction which allows the Japanese government to kill whales for research purposes through a loophole in International Whaling Commission rules.
