Ariel Castro, the former bus driver from Cleveland pleaded guilty on Friday to hundreds of charges of kidnapping, rape and holding three women captive. The man who has been splashed across newspapers in the past few months will serve the remainder of his life behind bars. The moment of the plea was revealed by Judge Michael Russo:
"So finally, Sir, again, do you understand, Mr. Castro, that upon entering this plea you'll never be released from prison?”
"I do understand that and I stated that to the agent Dave at sex crimes that I knew I was going to get pretty much going to get the book thrown at me."
"English, I am very good in spelling and I am very good at reading, but I can't comprehend because of, like I mentioned earlier, my addiction to pornography and my sexual problem has really taken a toll on my mind."
The fact that a plea has been made releases the three victims from the burden and pain of a highly publicized trail. Hopefully they can begin to live normal lives after an imaginable ordeal. Life behind bars also saved the life of Castro, as under Ohio law he could have been given the death penalty.
