In a case that shocked a nation Cleveland man Ariel Castro is being accused of holding three women captive for over a decade. On Wednesday he was charged with 512 counts of kidnapping and 446 counts of rape, where he pleaded not guilty.
The three victims escaped Castro’s home on May 6th shortly thereafter Castro, 56 was arrested and has been in police custody since.
The trial for Castro is scheduled for August 5th, pending a possible delay if the defense team requests more time to prepare his defense.
While he was in court this morning for the 977 count indictment Castro was asked by the judge to raise his head and eyes. In previous appearances he has kept his head down but this time the judge insisted that he have his head up so he understood the reading of his rights.
Last week the three victims who were kidnapped at different times took to YouTube to thank their fans and everyone who has supported them.
