One person has been confirmed dead and four others missing since an explosion ripped through a residential building in east China’s coastal city of Weihai in Shandong Province early on Monday morning.
The blast hit the buildings sixth floor and subsequently caused a fire in addition to the dead and missing. 10 people were injured among them three sustained severe injuries. The fire was extinguished in about 20 minutes, although the accident caused heavy damage to the building from ground level up to the seventh floor.
Search and rescue operations are still underway in the building: A preliminary investigation has indicated that the blast was caused by a gas leak.
