British Prime Minister, David Cameron has called an Emergency Meeting which is reserved for incidents that concern national security, after a British soldier was shot and killed. The incident occurred in south London.

At least one man was killed and two others were shot by police officers at the scene. Helicopters circled above directly after the incident and police sealed roads as further security measures.

Police Commander, Simon Letchford commented on the incident:

"At approximately 2.20 this afternoon, police officers were called to an assault in John Wilson Street, Woolwich, where one man was being assaulted by two other men. A number of weapons were reported as being used, including a report on a firearm. Officers including local officers from Greenwich police station and, shortly after, firearm officers attended the scene. On arrival, they found a man who was later pronounced dead. At this early stage, I am unable to provide any more information about the man who has died. Two men, who we believe from earlier reports to have been carrying weapons, were shot by police. They have both been taken to separate London hospitals and are receiving treatment for their injuries.”
