Two Britons linked to the alleged drug smuggler Lindsay Sandiford were both charged with drug trafficking in an Indonesian court on Tuesday (December 11). Rachel Dougall and Paul Beales, who were both arrested for their involvement in an alleged cocaine smuggling ring, appeared in a court on the island resort of Bali. Dougall, 39, was arrested after police found 45 grams of cocaine at her rented residence after Sandiford was caught with 4.7 kilograms of cocaine in the lining of her suitcase on her arrival at Bali's international airport on May 19. Meanwhile Beales, 40, was charged with possessing drugs and faced a secondary charge for the selling of narcotics of more than five grams. Beales was not considered to be the main player in the case, as a result of which he would not face the death penalty. Dougall's partner Julian Ponder, 43, was also arrested and both of them could still face the death penalty. Dougall and Ponder have a six-year-old daughter: British diplomats have visited the little girl.
