Hundreds of people attended a wreath-laying ceremony at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on Sunday (January 20). An American national holiday honoring the slain civil rights leaders falls on Monday (January 21), the same day as the public inauguration ceremony for U.S. President Barack Obama. Reverend Jesse Jackson, King's son Martin Luther King III, as well as celebrities and other dignitaries were in attendance. The King Memorial opened on the National Mall in 2011.
