For his epic portrayal of America’s loved former President, Daniel-Day Lewis took the Oscar for best actor in the intense drama ‘Lincoln’. Day-Lewis was the night’s front runner, and made Oscar history for winning his third Oscar for best actor. "I do know that I've received so much more than my fair share of good fortune in my life and I'm so grateful to the Academy for this beautiful honor. It's a strange thing because three years ago, before we decided to do a straight swap, I had actually been committed to play Margaret Thatcher and Meryl was Steven's first choice for Lincoln and I'd like to see that version." The humble British born actor won a Golden Globe, British BAFTA and Screen Actors Guild in the lead up to the Oscar’s for his memorable performance. Day-Lewis has been honored with critical acclaim for his portrayal of the loved American icon Abraham Lincoln. His transformation into the President gave him the honor of the first person to win an Oscar for playing a U.S President. Video Courtesy OF Reuters
