The Duke of Edinburgh, arrived at Westminster Abbey, in central London, on Monday afternoon (March 11) to step in for his wife, the country's monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, at the annual 'Observance of Commonwealth Day' Service. Queen Elizabeth pulled out of attending the service as she continues to recover from gastro-enteritis, but is expected to attend an evening reception during which she will sign the new Commonwealth Charter. Last Monday (March 4), the 86-year-old British monarch left the hospital after three days of treatment for her illness, having been forced to cancel a planned visit to Italy. It was the first time in 10 years that Elizabeth, who rarely cancels official engagements, had been hospitalized. Despite cutting back on a once hectic timetable of foreign visits, she is still renowned for her stamina in dealing with a busy schedule at home. Video Source: Reuters
