Google Inc. (Nasdaq GOOG) reported second-quarter earnings after the bell Thursday that missed analysts’ expectations, sending the shares falling in after-hours trading.
The Internet giant reported second-quarter adjusted earnings of $9.56 a share on revenue of $14.11 billion, missing Wall Street estimates of $10.78 a share on revenue of $14.41 billion.
At 4:54 p.m. Eastern, shares of Google fell 0.86 percent to $910.68.
Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) also missed forecasts after the company reported fiscal fourth-quarter earnings of 66 cents a share on revenue of $19.9 billion.
Investors will be waiting to hear about the software giant’s Surface tablet sales and the upcoming Xbox One launch.
Shares of Microsoft fell 0.84 percent to $35.44.
Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (NYSE: CMG) reported second-quarter earnings of $2.82 per share, above estimates for $2.81 per share. Revenue came in at $816.8 million, above expectations of $802.77 million.
The Dow and the S&P 500 hit record closing highs on Thursday after better-than-expected earnings from Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS) and congressional testimony from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 78.02 points, or 0.5 percent, to close at 15,548.54. The S&P 500 Index gained 8.46 points, or 0.50 percent, to end at 1,689.37. The Nasdaq Composite Index added 1.28 points, or 0.04 percent, to close at 3,611.28.
