Starbucks Corp. (NASDAQ:SBUX) reported fiscal third quarter earnings of 55 cents a share on $3.74 billion in revenue, compared with earnings of 43 cents a share on revenue of $3.30 billion in the year-ago period. Analysts polled by Reuters expected Starbucks Corp. to report third-quarter earnings of 53 cents per share on revenue of $3.72 billion
As of 5:12 p.m. Eastern, Starbucks is trading up 6.25 percent to $72.43 a share.
Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) reported a loss of two cents a share for the second quarter on $15.7 billion in revenue, compared with earnings of 1 cent per share on revenue of $12.83 billion in the year-ago period. Reuters estimated the online retailer to book second-quarter earnings of 5 cents a share on revenue of $15.74 billion
Amazon.com is trading down 2.57 percent to $295.75 a share in after-hours trade.
Expedia Inc (Nasdaq: EXPE) earnings missed Wall Street expectations, sending the stock over 22 percent. The online travel agency reported second-quarter earnings of 64 cents per share, down from 89 cents a share in the year-earlier period. Expedia was expected to report earnings of 79 cents a share on $1.26 billion in revenue, according to estimates from Reuters.
Shares of Expedia fell 25.17 percent to $48.64 after the bell.
Zynga Inc. (NASDAQ:ZNGA) reported a 31 percent drop in revenue and posted a 1 cent per share loss, compared with a 1 cent profit a year ago. Analysts polled by Reuters predicted Zynga Inc. to report a loss of 3 cents per share in the second quarter on revenue of $185.42 million. Shares plunged after the company said it gave up its plans to offer real-money gambling.
Shares of Zynga fell 12.29 percent to $3.09 a share in extended hours trade.
U.S. stocks fluctuated on Thursday, but edged up at the close as investors weighed mixed earnings results from Facebook Inc (Nasdaq: FB), General Motors Company (NYSE: GM), 3M Co (NYSE: MMM) and The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW).
On the earnings calendar for Friday, investors will be eyeing Newell Rubbermaid Inc. (NYSE:NWL), NV Energy Inc. (NYSE:NVE), Tyco International Ltd. (NYSE:TYC) and more.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 13.37 points, or 0.09 percent, to close at 15,555.61. The S&P 500 was up 4.31 points, or 0.26 percent, to finish at 1,690.25. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 25.59 points, or 0.71 percent, to end at 3,605.19
