LinkedIn Corp (NYSE: LNKD) beat Wall Street expectations Thursday when the company reported second-quarter earnings of 38 cents a share on revenue of $364 million, compared with analysts’ expectations of 31 cents a share on $354 million in revenue, according to estimates from analysts polled by Reuters.
As of 5:07 p.m. Eastern, shares of LinkedIn rose 6.15 percent to $226.11 in after-hours trading.
American International Group Inc (NYSE: AIG) reported second-quarter earnings of $1.12 a share on $8.35 billion in revenue, compared with expectations for the company to post a profit of 85 cents per share on revenue of $8.62 billion, according to estimates from Reuters.
Shares of AIG rose 3.95 percent to $49.00 after the bell.
Kraft Foods Group Inc (Nasdaq: KRFT) beat earnings estimates as it issued second-quarter earnings of $1.38 per share. Revenue came in at $4.74 billion.
Shares of Kraft Foods edged up 0.53 percent to $57.44 after the market close.
Sony Corporation (ADR) (NYSE: SNE) posted net income of 3.5 billion yen ($35 million) in the latest quarter, compared to a loss of 24.6 billion yen in the period a year earlier. Revenue increased 13 percent to $17.3 billion.
Shares of Sony jumped over four percent during Thursday’s session but edged lower to 0.20 percent to $21.92 in extended hours trading.
U.S. stocks soared on Thursday to hit record closing highs, as the S&P 500 jumped above 1,700 for the first time, ahead of Friday’s highly anticipated jobs report for July.
On the earnings calendar for Friday: Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX) Toyota Motor Corporation (ADR) (NYSE: TM), Cablevision Systems Corporation (NYSE: CVC) and more report quarterly earnings.
On the economic calendar for Friday: Nonfarm payrolls and the unemployment rate for July, personal income, consumer spending, the Core PCE price index and factory orders for June.
The Dow Jones industrial average jumped 128.48 points or 0.83 percent, to close at 15,628.02. The S&P 500 gained 21.14 points, or 1.25 percent, to 1,706.87. The Nasdaq Composite added 49.37 points, or 1.36 percent, to 3,675.74.
