A loud boom was heard and then lava shot up to 2,000 meters into the air from Indonesia’s Mount Lokon. People were then warned not to go within 1.7 miles of Mount Lokon after an eruption spread fear across nearby villages.
Authorities have stated that the eruption caused the third highest alert level, but they have not yet asked residents to evacuate. Luckily there have been no fatalities or reports of any injuries. Authorities will now closely monitor the volcano in case it poses a serious threat to surrounding villages.
The volcano stands at 1,689 meters high, and has been erupting since July 2011.
