Protesting the recent gang rape of a young girl were protestors in Northern India, the angry members of the protest set a bicycle on fire as they chanted and rallied. Police were seen beating the protestors with batons as they later fired rounds of shots into the air.
The protest was conducted to put a spotlight on women’s safety and their protection against sexual assault. Sadly, sex crimes in India are common: The National Crime Records Bureau says more then 24,200 rapes were reported across the country in 2011 and there is an assault every 20 minutes.
People in India take to the streets in protest to rally for a better policing system against assault on women and sex crimes.
