A former doctor pleaded guilty on Friday (November 9) to infecting more than 50 women with hepatitis C at a clinic in Melbourne Australia.
James Latham Peters was a former anesthetist who worked in the Croydon Day surgery abortion clinic between 2008 and 2009.
He admitted infecting 55 women at the surgery as their names were read out in court one by one.
Local media said Peters was addicted to fentanyl, which was used in procedures at the day clinic, and would inject himself before using the drug on his patients.
He was diagnosed with hepatitis C in 1997, the same year he was suspended for drug abuse although he was later allowed to return to work.
He is expected to reappear in court next year.
