Tragedy struck the Egyptian town of Luxor on Tuesday as a mid- air gas explosion claimed the lives of 18 tourists. The causalities included French, British, Chinese and Japanese nationals. The freak accident occurred at around 1,000 feet above the town. The pilot was fortunate to survive by jumping from the basket and landing on the ground. Another tourist survived the blast.
It has been reported that the explosion was caused by the hose being between the burner and gas canister. Tourism is a huge part of the Egyptian economy with many travelling from around the world to view their historical sites including temples and tombs.
