Sports Illustrated's annual celebration of skin, the Swimsuit 2013 edition, is out and the magazine held a VIP party in New York on Tuesday (February 12) to celebrate the launch.
Stealing the spotlight was cover model Kate Upton who literally went to the ends of the earth to give this year's edition of the magazine a unique twist, posing in Antarctica in temperatures as low as 24 degrees Fahrenheit (-4 Celsius) and wind chills as low as -20 Fahrenheit (-29 Celsius).
"I'm so happy with the outcome. I went to Antarctica and I got on the cover of Sports Illustrated, who would have even thought that was possible," said Upton.
Upton, wearing only a white bikini bottom and an unzipped white parka, was picked as the cover girl for the annual swimsuit issue, unveiled on Tuesday, for the second consecutive year.
The magazine's creative directory, Christopher Hercik, had praise for all the models, but especially for Upton.
"Every single one of them was diehard like, wanting to be there. Kate in Antarctica was just a trooper and as you can see by the cover, it's just phenomenal," said Hercik.
Upton joins celebrity models including Elle Macpherson, Christie Brinkley and Tyra Banks to appear more than once on the swimsuit issue's cover.
Russian beauty Irina Shayk explained why she wanted to be a part in swimsuit edition.
"It's legendary magazine and more than 60 million people see it every year. I mean it's beautiful, it's classic, it's sexy and it's ageless," said Shayk.
This year's 17 models were part of photo shoots that stretched across all seven continents.
