In an unspeakable act of violence, three young sisters were brutally raped and murdered in India, before being dumped into a nearby well.
The girls, ages 11, 9, and 6, went missing on Feb. 14th and were discovered 2 days later in their native village.
Locals are outraged over the incident causing tension in the district.
Protesters demanded immediate police action. They blocked National Highway 06 and began destroying public property.
As a result, authorities have promised a speedy investigation into the horrific tragedy.
Police told the media they had a few leads and a massive manhunt to catch the culprits had already begun.
The girls were last seen on their way to school last Wednesday, but when their classmates returned to the victims’ home later that day with the girls’ school bags in hand, and no sign of the girls, their grandfather contacted police.
The incidents come just over two months after the horrific gang rape of a 23-year-old woman aboard a bus in New Delhi that sent shock waves across the country.
Women’s security in India has become a big issue. According to government statistics, one woman is raped in India every 20 minutes, but the conviction rate is among the lowest in the world.
