Japanese researchers may have unearthed a continent off the coast of Brazil: The find comes as they discover granite on seabed in the Atlantic Ocean. The research team led by the Japan Agency For Marine-Earth Science and technology found a ten by ten meter wide rock cliff nearly 3,000 feet under the ocean, southeast of Rio je Janeiro.
The significance of granite is huge, as it is only ever found on land. This means that the seabed may have been swallowed by water in the past as it was once above ground. No samples have been removed but the team will investigate the possible continent further.
The research team- JAMSTEC is currently undertaking a year-long mission to look for life in the deepest of ocean locations.
