Madonna fans eager to see some of her most iconic costumes were treated to a rare display at a pop-up exhibition in Los Angeles on Thursday (April 25) featuring clothing from her teen-targeted clothing line, Material Girl.
Various looks on display include the famous Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra corset from her Blond Ambition Tour, her "Like A Virgin" wedding dress she wore to the MTV Video Music Awards in 1984, and her "Boy Toy" jacket designed by Vivienne Westwood and the late graffiti artist Keith Haring.
The exhibit, called "Madonna's Fashion Evolution," is part of a pop-up exhibition for Material Girl, a clothing line which she designed with her daughter Lourdes Ciccone Leon.
The singer's longtime stylist Arianne Phillips says she and Madonna personally selected the costumes for the exhibit.
"She has a fantastic closet where she's kept a lot of her wonderful costumes and together we helped put together these costumes for exhibition but she chose what she thought would be best on display together -- we had so many to choose from," says Arianne Phillips.
The costumes on display span three decades of style, from her early days inspired by the New York club scene, to costumes worn for her 2004 Re-Invention tour.
The pop-up exhibition, held at the Macy's in Los Angeles' Century City mall, was brief -- fans were only able to see it for one night. Material Girl is sold exclusively for Macy's department stores.
