Mark Bridger, the man accused of murdering five year old April Jones, was remanded in custody on Monday when he appeared at Aberystwyth magistrate’s court. Arriving at the court with a police escort an angry crowd shouted at the prison van and banged on its side as it approached the court building.
Inside the court 46 year old Bridger stood in the dock as he was formally charged with the abduction and murder of April Jones as well as the unlawful concealment and disposal of her body with intent to pervert the course of justice.
Bridger cried to himself as he spoke only to confirm his name, age and address and that he understood the charges. He was remanded in custody and will appear in court next on Wednesday.
April, who suffers from cerebral palsy and needs daily medication, was last seen near her home in Machnlleth on Monday evening. Bridger was arrested the following day.
