The Maritime Safety of Queensland, Australia is working hard to clean up around 5-10 tons of oil that was spilt at the Port of Brisbane on Monday. Scott Emerson the Queensland Transport Minister commented on the costly spill:
"In terms of the vessel that may be the culprit in this, they're facing individual fines of up to $550,000 AUD. If it's a company fines of up to $11 million AUD and as well as the cost of cleaning it up."
There has been no major disruption to shipping as a result of the spill. There are reports of some birds coming into contact with the oil, as authorities are coming up with a plan to capture the birds and clean them.
