A gas well exploded into a ball of fire near Charleston, West Virginia, on Tuesday (December 11) setting four houses on fire, an emergency spokesman said.
So far, no injuries have been reported.
Emergency officials said the gas well explosion was reported at 12:41 p.m. local time (1741GMT),
The explosion in Sissonville, about 10 miles (16 km) north of Charleston, set the four houses on fire, and they were still burning at mid-afternoon, officials said.
A nearby highway was closed to traffic northbound and southbound.
The spokeswoman said West Virginia State Police were preparing to release further details about the blast imminently.
