David Mintz is the CEO and founder of ‘Tofutti,’ a small but innovative company that produces dairy-free frozen desserts, snacks and meals that are sold in more than 30 countries around the world. It all began with David’s love of ice cream, despite the fact that he is lactose intolerant.
David is not alone. In the U.S. today there are some 60 million people allergic to dairy or who are lactose intolerant. The budding restaurateur saw a niche, and he has been thriving in it for the past 30 years. Tofutti is most famous for their ice-cream, especially ‘Cuties,’ a dairy fairy ice-cream sandwich.
IBTimesTV went to New Jersey to meet with David to see how the dairy-free food is created. We learned that it’s not just ice cream, and “if it's dairy, we can make it dairy-free.” David, who describes himself as a food engineer, showed us chicken parmigiana, ravioli, crepes, pizza and even gelato that tastes like roses -- yes, roses!
But this is not just for the lactose intolerant. The dairy-free diet trend continues to gain momentum in the press, with high-profile celebrities like Victoria Beckham and Jennifer Anniston endorsing the dairy-free lifestyle.
So does eating dairy-free make you healthier? “No question!” was David’s response. The options are now endless for David and his team at Tofutti who continue to promote the idea that dairy-free is not only better for you but pretty damn tasty.
