Miss Venezuela Murder Sparks Public Backlash: Protestors Demand An End To The Violence

Venezuela is now in a global spotlight, after their former Miss Venezuela Monica Spear was shot and killed. The murder was motivated by robbery and now the countries violence has been put under a microscope with all the media attention. The crime in Venezuela is at a terrifying high, as many inhabitants have been forced to ramp up their home security, while some are forced to drive in armored cars.

Spear along with her ex-husband were shot and killed in their car on Monday in front of their five year old daughter who survived the attack. The murder was a result of an attempted robbery, and five suspects are in police custody.

The high profile murder has enraged Venezuelans who are now protesting for their safety and government action against the soaring crime rates. Venezuela has one of the world’s highest murder rates with 79 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants in 2013.
