A man being held by police for missing five year old April Jones, who went missing in Machynlleth, Wales on Monday is now being questioned about her murder. Detective superintendent Reg Bevan commented on the arrest:
"Good morning. I would like to update you on developments in the investigation. Mark Bridger has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of April Jones. He remains in custody in Aberystwyth police station and continues to be questioned. The arrest does not detract from our efforts to locate April and we remain committed to finding her. Her family has been informed of these developments and, as you'd expect, they continue to be supported by our specialist trained officers. Whilst this is a significant development in the investigation, I once again appeal to the public for information that may help find April. Again we are looking to trace the movements of Mark Bridger between Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon and any sightings of him between these times and that of his vehicle, which is a blue Land rover Discovery - L503MEP."
Searches will continue but the focus has inevitably changed from looking for a live child, to one of looking for a body. Detectives have until Friday afternoon to question the suspect, unless they apply for a further warrant of detention.
