Bolivia police said a group of people attacked and buried a man alive along with his alleged rape and murder victim after the man accused of the crime showed up at the victim's funeral on Wednesday (June 5).
The body of the 35-year-old woman was discovered on a highway where she was left after being raped and murdered.
Local police had named 17-year-old Santos Ramos as a possible suspect.
When the suspect turned up at the woman's funeral on Wednesday family and community members recognized him as the man accused of the crime and chased him down, captured him and beat him.
Local reports said an angry mob of about 200 people beat Ramos and tied his arms and feet together and threw him on top of Arias' coffin and buried him alive along with her.
Ramos was killed in the ordeal and his body has since been recovered.
Lynching cases are not entirely uncommon in some rural areas of Bolivia where there is a limited police presence.
