North Koreans paid tribute to the country's mothers for the first time in the capital city of Pyongyang. Video filmed by the North's official media KCNA for Reuters showed people leaving offerings of flowers at the statues of the North Korean founder Kim Il-sung, and his son the late leader Kim Jong-il to mark the day. Flower and souvenir shops were packed with people who came to buy bouquets and greeting cards for their mothers. North Korea announced in September that they designated November 16 as Mother's Day. The fourth National Meeting of Mothers took place on Thursday (November 15).
