A Manhattan Federal judge has approved a request by prosecutors to officially dismiss all criminal charges against Osama bin Laden. U.S. District Court Judge Lewis Kaplan made the order, more than six weeks after bin Laden was killed by the U.S. military in a raid on his hideout in Pakistan. The al-Qaida leader was first indicted in June 1998 in federal court in Manhattan on charges related to the terrorist attacks on the two U.S. embassies in Africa. He was also charged with what prosecutors called al Qaeda's worldwide conspiracy to kill Americans, which climaxed with the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
