A piece of history played by the legendary John Lennon and George Harrison is heading for auction in just a few days. The electric guitar was used by the musicians at the height of The Beatles success and it is expected to fetch anywhere between $200,000 and $300,000 at auction. The significance of the piece was explained by Martin Nolan, the Executive Director of Julien’s Auctions:
"So of course. At Julien's Auctions we are the auction house to the stars. And every year we hold music icons auction. This really is - people from all walks of life that have or own pieces of memorabilia from music rock stars. Or even the rock stars themselves will consign to us."
"So the Vox guitar that we're selling in this auction was made especially for John Lennon by Vox guitar back in 1966. And of course, Vox is very well known for its amplifiers. And Beatles players always used Vox sound equipment but then Vox tried to get in making guitars. So it's sort of rare that there is a Vox guitar. And it's a beautiful guitar custom made for John Lennon - very futuristic in how it was designed and the technology that was attached to it."
Every year the famed Auction house sells memorabilia like costumes, and personal effects from musical celebrities like Elvis and Michael Jackson. But they also sell pieces from current stars like a costume from Nicky Minaj that is expected to sell for $1,000-$2,000.
The rare guitar that holds a place in musical history will be on display at the Hard Rock Café in NYC before going to auction on May 18th
