Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was in New York on Thursday where he was due to address a gathering of international bankers at an event hosted by a Brazilian investment bank. Sarkozy, who was last seen at the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan, has been under the spotlight following speculation that he could be embarking on a path of paid for speeches, following his election defeat earlier this year.
If it is true, Sarkozy would be following in the footsteps of other world leaders, including, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and former US President Bill Clinton- who earn lucrative incomes from public engagements.
The New York visit also comes as speculation grows that Sarkozy could be eyeing a political comeback in 2017, with a re-election bid. If he does seek re-election, Sarkozy would be the first president to do so in non-consecutive terms
