Thirteen Maryland prison guards have been accused of aiding national gang’s drug scheme from behind bars in a shocking scandal. 25 people in total were indicted on charges of drug conspiracy, money laundering and racketeering.
The officers accused of the crimes were mostly women and are being accused of conspiring with alleged gang members in the prison. They used things like cell phones, drugs and gifts as tools of the conspiracy. According to court documents conversations were recorded that indicate that sexual favors and gang activity happened behind the prison walls.
The correction officers have been suspended from their job without pay. The indictment also states that several guards had fallen pregnant as a result of the sexual relationship with the inmates
