A smiling new father, Barcelona's soccer star Gerard Pique, said on Wednesday (January 23) he was "nervous" when his pop star girlfriend, Colombian singer Shakira, gave birth to their first child. The football player was present in the delivery room, when their baby boy, Milan Piqué Mebarak, was born on Tuesday evening at 21:36 CET (January 22). "It is always very special. It is a unique moment," Pique told reporters outside Barcelona's Teckon hospital. "They said he has my lips but we will see," he added. Earlier in the day Pique had left the hospital to attend his team's training session where he was greeted with applause. Shakira's parents and her sister arrived at the hospital later in the day. "We are very happy, she is very well thank God, everything went perfect and he is divine," Shakira's mother Nidia Ripoll told reporters. The singer's sister Lucy Mebarak, a doctor, who was present at the birth, said: "They were very emotional. Gerard picked up the baby and held him give him warmth." "He is deeply into the father role," she added. The "Hips Don't Lie" singer and her boyfriend, later also revealed the baby's name and weight, which comes in at six-pound, six-ounces (three kilograms). "Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn) means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious, and in Sanskrit, unification," the star said in a statement posted on her website. "Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth," the couple joked in a statement. Pique is a defender for Spanish La Liga runner-up FC Barcelona. Shakira, 35, announced her pregnancy in September after bowing out of a performance in Las Vegas. Last week the couple asked fans to donate gifts such as mosquito nets and vaccines to help needy children in an online baby shower. Shakira is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. Shakira has signed on to be a judge on the upcoming season of the hit singing contest "The Voice," which is broadcast by U.S. network NBC. She and R&B singer Usher will replace judges Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green. The singer fist met Pique, 25, in 2010, but only confirmed that they had been in a relationship in March 2011.
