Solar Flare: Sun Releasing a Firestorm of Radiation

Category: Technology / Jun 08, 2011 11:32AM EDT
Newly released video captured by NASA shows a medium-sized solar flare erupting from the sun. The videos released on Wednesday (June 8) are the first images captured since 2006 that show the sun releasing a firestorm of radiation on that level. NASA says the flare, known as a Coronal mass ejection, peaked on Tuesday (June 7), causing a large cloud of particles to mushroom up. Experts believe geomagnetic storms caused by the solar blast may disrupt satellite communications on Earth. NASA described the event as visually spectacular, but said its effects on Earth were expected to remain fairly small. IBTIME TV I'm Christelle Koumoue
