As part of a test run planned for a cross country flight in May a solar-powered plane soared over San Francisco Bay area on Tuesday. The spectacular sight was not the plane’s first trip, it was however the first this long remaining in the air for around 16 hours.
The plane is light weight and is owned by the Swiss firm Solar Impulse with a wingspan of 208 feet. It flew around 3,000 feet in the air above the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. The plane weighs around 3,500 pounds running entirely on power generated by the sun.
