Statue Of Liberty Welcomes Visitors Again: Reopened After 11 Days Due To Government Shutdown

She stands as one of the most recognizable symbol of New York, America and Freedom- The statue of Liberty has been a tourist attraction since it was brought to the U.S as a gift from the people of France in 1886, But for 11 days The Statue of Liberty has been closed due to the Government shutdown.

On Sunday however New York reached a deal with the National Park Service despite the shutdown. There have been 401 National Park Service attractions including Mount Rushmore that have been shut across the country due to the shutdown, which was caused by the White House failing to reach an agreement on how they were going to raise the national debt limit.

As a result more than 7 million Americans were kept out of the parks for the past 10 days, and it is estimated that $750 million was lost in visitor spending. Now however at least for the Statue of Liberty the days of lost tourists is over.

The Statue of Liberty attracts millions of visitors to New York City every day. It being closed had no doubt a huge impact on the local economy and tourism industry.
