Thousands gathered at the Thammasat Rangsit Stadium in the outskirts of Bangkok on Tuesday (February 12) to try to break the Guinness World Record for most hula-hoop dancers in one place.
Children and adults of all ages twirled their hips simultaneously in an effort to smash the record.
Pathum Thani wasn't the only province participating. Nakhon Ratchasima and Saraburi in Central Thailand, Chiang Mai in the North and Songkla in the South also joined to total of about 30,000 hula-hoop dancers.
Their efforts prevailed, as the official count was 4,183 hula-hoopers at the stadium, twisting for for 7 minutes.
"It gives me great pleasure to recognise the new Guinness World Record for the most people hula-hooping - Ying Dee Duay Kha (Thai for: Congratulations), 4183 participants," said Seyala Gemici, a representative for the Guinness World Record.
The event organizers partnered with the Public Health Ministry to promote fitness and exercise.
Participants recited a pledge afterwards promising to exercise at least 30 minutes a day, five times a week.
The previous record was held by Taiwan back in August 2011 where 2,496 people gathered to hula-hoop.
