They are especially common in cosmetics shops or health stores, which almost always have a ladyboy shop assistant. PC Air, a charter airline set to start operations on Asian routes in April, originally planned only to hire male and female flight attendants. But it changed its mind after receiving more than 100 job applications from transvestites and transsexuals. Four were chosen, along with 19 female and 7 male flight attendants. One 22-yr-old transsexual flight attendant said, This is the beginning of the acceptance of transvestite in Thailand, giving the opportunity for us to work in various fields. Maybe in the future we can get any job that transvestite never did before such as police, soldier or even pilot. Peter Chan, the airline president said transvestite flight attendant has an advantage for the job. The transvestites might provide better services than male and female (flight attendant) because they understand both male and female. And they're well-trained accordingly with the aviation standard. The new recruits have been training for several months for aviation security, in-flight services and make up lessons. The airline is initially set to fly to South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and China.
