Two three-month-old cheetah cubs showed off their athletic abilities for the first time at the Smithsonian's National Zoo on Tuesday (July 24).

The cubs, a male and a female, chased each other across the grass to the delight of onlookers, which were mostly members of the media.

One of the cubs climbed up on a tree limb and had to be coaxed down by zookeepers. The cheetahs will soon be named after the fastest American male and female athletes in the 2012 Olympics 100-meter dash.

Depending on which American Olympians run the fastest, the female cub may be named Carmelita, Tianna, or Allyson, and the male cub might be named Justin, Tyson, or Ryan.

The cubs will be introduced to the general public on Saturday, July 28.
