The United States' concerns about Syria's intentions regarding use of chemical weapons is increasing, prompting Washington to prepare contingency plans, White House spokesman Jay Carney said on Monday (December 3).
"I wouldn't want to speculate but we think it is important to prepare for all scenarios. Contingency planning is the responsible thing to do and we are also actively consulting with friends, allies and the opposition. But I wouldn't want to speculate about what action we might take," Carney said.
Carney's comments came after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned that the United States would take action if Syria used the weapons.
Carney declined to say what the contingency plans involved.
