Wall Street rose early on Monday, as investors grew more confident about the global economy after initial polls showed pro-reform center-leftists could win the Italian general election. Markets feared that if the elections went in favor of Silvio Berlusconi's conservative bloc, attempts to tackle Italy's debt crisis would be weakened.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 46 points, or 0.33 percent, at 14,046. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 7 points, or 0.46 percent, at 1,523. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 17 points, or 0.53 percent, at 3,179.
