The U.S aircraft carrier, ‘USS Enterprise’, crossed through Egypt’s Suez Canal on Friday after completing a mission in the Gulf. Shipping sources at the Suez Canal Authority confirmed that the USS Enterprise, sailing in a convoy of four ships, was on its way to the Mediterranean Sea. The fleet made its journey upon completing a mission at the Strait of Hormuz, the neck of the Gulf through which 40% of the world’s seaborne oil exports passes, after Iran threatened to close the Strait/ The 113,000 ton enterprise is the oldest and biggest aircraft carrier in the world and the Strait mission marked the end of around half a century of service. The Enterprise sailed from the Red Sea amidst tight security conditions, according to the Suez Canal authority.
