In a video that would make the coldest of hearts melt, a baby panda with its mother made its outdoor debut at Washington D.C’s National Zoo on Tuesday. The giant panda cub, Bao Bao did not stray far from its mother Mei Xiang as the 6 month old strolled the yard with a keen sense of curiosity.
Bao Bao is not new to the media spotlight, as her birth was broadcast live on August 23rd through the zoo’s panda cam. No doubt the interest is heightened by the fact that giant pandas are among the world’s most endangered species.
Today it is estimated that there are only 1,600 pandas living in the wild, due largely to the difficulty the species has breeding.
