Astronomers in Chile were stunned when they captured a magical moment: An explosive birth of a new star some 1,400 light years from Earth. The footage reveals the impressive glowing gas as it ejected material into space at an estimated 621,000 miles per hour.

The creation of the new star occurred in the constellation Vela and the moment of its birth was seen through a telescope in Chile. The most impressive feature of the footage is the fact that you can see just how violent the birth of a star really is.

Astronomers will use this footage to further study the formation of stars through examining how in fact they are born.
