Rare Sumatran Rhinos that were thought to be extinct in eastern Borneo were captured on film in Indonesia giving conservationists new hope that the extremely threatened species have managed to survive in some parts of the world. The footage was captured in June to August of this year, and now new hope for the Sumatran rhinos is born.

It is believed that there are fewer than 300 Sumatran Rhinos roaming across Southeast Asia today. While attempts of their conservation are fuelled through them living in zoos, they rarely breed in captivity.

The Sumatran Rhino is the smallest of all rhino species. It is hunted because of its value in traditional Chinese medicine.  This new footage while bringing hope, also highlights the urgent need to protect and preserve these endangered species.
