Elizabeth Taylor is a star that needs no introduction, and one lucky bidder took home a piece of her own personal history by buying her wedding gown at Auction in London on Wednesday. The dress was worn in 1950 to her first husband Conrad Hilton Jnr. And it sold for $187,931 USD- that’s double its original estimated cost.
The dress went under the hammer as part of Christie’s “120 years of pop culture” auction which showcased over 250 items including costumes, photographs and memorabilia.
The Elizabeth Taylor wedding dress was reflective of her glamorous sense of style: Some fifteen people worked on the white corseted dress taking three months to make with over 13 meters of satin.
The auction house is also selling various memorabilia from other icons of the stage and screen including Marilyn Monroe, Bob Dylan and Elvis Presley.
