The Eiffel Tower is one of the most recognized monuments in the world, and is an icon of France, but today it has been shut down. The reason is a strike: The Company that manages the tower and its 300 workers called the walkout Tuesday morning.
The reason for the walk out was the workers were protesting for better work conditions and more pay at the height of the tourist season, which is now during the European summer.
The CGT union called the strike, which is the first since a two day shutdown in December 2010.
The Eiffel Tower attracts around 7 million tourists every year.
